Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp Limited was established in 1993 in Trinidad and Tobago with the goal of making open heart surgery and advanced cardiac care accessible to patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases in Trinidad and Tobago and across the Caribbean. Prior to its formation, the incidence of open heart surgical procedures being performed locally was rare, the prevailing trend at the time being that patients requiring heart surgery and complex cardiology procedures necessitated travel abroad for medical attention.

Over the past 16 years, CHCm has grown both in experience and expertise, and we now perform 300 to 400 heart surgeries annually including highly complex paediatric cases. Our low morbidity and mortality statistics are equally impressive positioning us among the best-rated cardiovascular treatment centres in the world.

Much of CHCm’s success is attributable to the experience and expertise of our team of heart surgeons, cardiologists and interventionalists. In addition to internationally trained and qualified local surgeons, we have had the distinct advantage of having worked with prominent international surgeons and cardiac specialists who have come to Trinidad from across the continents including the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Israel, India, Sri Lanka, the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela.

Over the years, CHCm’s relationship with ASCARDIO Cardiovascular Institute in Venezuela – (also a training institute for Cardiologists and Interventional Cardiologists) developed to the point where in September 2007, our two institutions officially entered into a partnering agreement. The first such venture of its kind in the Caribbean, this new partnership brings to us ASCARDIO’s 30-plus years’ experience in cardiology services including its an outstanding track record of having performed over 20,000 catheterizations and over 100,000 cardiac patient consultations. Moreover, it puts CHCm in the unique position of being the only heart care institution locally and regionally to offer our cardiac patients 24-hour access to both heart surgery as well as cutting-edge cardiology services:

These procedures and others rarely performed in Trinidad before are now routinely available at CHCm. This is especially relevant in cases of cardiac emergency such as heart attack onset when immediate medical assessment and treatment significantly increases the chance of patient survival by minimising heart muscle damage.

The availability of life saving heart surgery and advanced cardiology services on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis places CHCm in the unique position of being able to offer the emergency intervention procedures that can save hearts and lives.
